Android quick-app: Pulse Version 2.0
The Pulse news reader has long been one of our favorite -- and more graphically pleasing -- ways to crank through news. While it might not be the best way to sort through hundreds of hundreds or RSS feeds (what, you think this job is easy), if you want a great experience reading a couple dozen, you can't beat it.
And Pulse just got even better in Version 2.0. The UI has been divided into "pages" (or think of them as tabs if you want). There's a bunch of preloaded content, and a couple blank pages, and you can customize things to you heart's content.
And new for us Android users is an entire section of Android news. Not that you'll need more than the Android Central feed, of course. Check out our hands-on and get download links after the break.

Google accuses China of interfering with Gmail
According to The Guardian, the number of complaints from Gmail users and advertisers in China has steadily risen of late. Google believes that the problems are the result of "a government blockage [which has been] carefully designed to look like the problem is with Gmail." A Google spokesperson went on to say that the company has checked extensively and that there is no problem on its end.
The blockage may be an attempt to quiet the Jasmine Revolution, which arose in China following the identically-named Tunisian revolution earlier this year.

Boomshine is a soothing-yet-frustrating time waster
That single click triggers a chain reaction; circles start exploding, and other circles colliding with the shockwaves explode as well, creating their own shockwaves, which then catch other circles.
It's been done before, yes, but this one is a great iteration. The soundtrack is mellow, with lots of piano and some nice percussion (not electronic - it sounds like drums).
At each level you need to make a certain number of circles explode to go on to the next level. I got up to level 12, where you get 60 circles and need to make 55 of them explode. And then I kept trying and trying, but simply couldn't get it. I did get to 54 circles a couple of times, but as they say, you don't get points for trying.
There's no time limit, so you can carefully study the pattern of motion and place your click at the exact right place to create the best chain reaction. I've found that clicking near the middle of the screen works quite well, especially if the balls are slowly moving in that direction. By the time the first shockwave dies off, the oncoming balls usually hit it and the chain reaction continues.

How to prevent people from seeing your recent activity on Facebook
Recent activities are everything you do on Facebook, from commenting on a friend's wall to posting photos or changing your relationship status. If a friend visits your profile they can see all of your actions -- a humbling thought, eh? -- unless they don't have permission.
Put simply, the only way to prevent people from seeing "John Lonelypants is now single" on their News Feed is to change your privacy settings so that your current relationship is hidden from your friends. This in turn makes any relationship-related status changes invisible.
Likewise, the only way to prevent other people from seeing which things you 'like' is to prevent them from seeing all of your likes and interests. It's either one way or the other with Facebook's current privacy model.
To begin, click Account in the top right corner, and then Privacy Settings -- or click this link.

That Was Fast: The Speak-To-Search Extension For Chrome
It seems like just yesterday that I was writing about Chrome 11's awesome new ability to let you speak to the browser by way of HTML5. In fact, it was just yesterday. But that hasn't stopped a team from coming up with a Chrome extension to get it to work in search boxes across the web. Speechify is an extension that Dugley Labs churned out in record speed yesterday. With it, many of the search boxes you visit on the web gain the little microphone icon that when clicked, allows you to speak your search. It works on Google, Bing, YouTube, Hulu ? a ton of sites. And it works well.

Acer Iconia Tab A501 coming to AT&T this summer
Although we've seen the Acer Iconia Tab at Mobile World Congress as well as at CES all signs for this 10.1 inch tablet with a 1280x768 display, running a NVIDIA Tegra 250 Dual-core CPU pointed that it was definitely headed for Verizon given that they announced it and everything. You can't click through to any product listings, but that's not really the interesting bit: the prices are visible, and they're different from the Android Market. In many cases the Android App Store seems to be cheaper, and there are even some exclusive Amazon-only Android apps, such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Force Recon. You can check Androidnews.de for a complete list of the price and exclusivity comparisons, or jump straight to the Google Spreadsheet. In case Amazon takes the page down, Androidnews.de also has screenshots of all the apps.
There is a possibility that we're seeing temporary placeholder data, but considering the Appstore-exclusive Angry Birds Rio is slated to be released in the next couple of weeks, and thus the Amazon Appstore must be nearing completion, the data is probably accurate.

Hands-on with the Wifi-only HTC Flyer, coming this spring to Best Buy

Best Buy just dropped the news that it'll be selling an unbranded, Wifi-only HTC Flyer Android tablet sometime this spring. That's good news for those of you who are looking for some contractless tablet love. And we got ourselves a little time with the device tonight at a CTIA after-hours event.
For all intents and purposes, it's an HTC Flyer, same as we saw unveiled a month ago at Mobile World Congress. The advantage here, of course, is that you're not beholden to a carrier for a two year contract. On the other hand, you have to rely on having a Wifi signal, but for many of us that's not a problem.
Still no word on when it'll be available, other than "this spring," and they're not budging on how much they'll be selling it for. So stay tuned.
